Since it’s birth Pakistan has been facing external conspiracies and external-backed internal threats and has lacked leadership, except for a handful of committed and dedicated persons in our national history all others have done nothing significant, and neither of them had the courage to stand against exploitation of our nationalist interests. We have a history full of blunders by our ruling elite, which caused the disintegration of our beloved homeland. In spite of the vast and glorious area full of natural resources and a huge potential in manpower, our country is still striving to get onto the path of prosperity and self-esteem. The countless number of minerals and natural resources can play a very important part in the progress of our country and big labor potential can turn our country into a regional power.
Precious Gems of Pakistan
The state of Pakistan comprises of 796096 sq. Km/s and has four major internal divisions
Punjab, Sind, Baluchistan and N.W.F.P. Beside these, the areas of Azad Kashmir, FATA and FANA are other parts, which haven’t been allocated the status of province.
In terms of gemstones the areas of Azad Kashmir, N.W.F.P, and Baluchistan are extremely important. It is worth mentioning here that Pakistan holds the fifth largest reserves of precious and semi precious stones. Pakistan possesses the gemstones like Emerald, Ruby, Topaz, Tourmaline, Aquamarine and Sapphire etc. In N.W.F.P alone the gemstones are scattered around on an area of 74521 sq. Km/s. On the other hand the FATA region has precious stones present over an area of 2700 sq. Km/s. Potential area in Swat region is estimated to be 3000 sq. Km/s, and 100 million carats of gems are expected to be present in the region. Whereas in the far north, the areas of Chitral, Kaghan and Kohistan have large number of undeveloped gemstone mines.
If we go to south and east, we find out that the Mehmend Agency, FATA region and northern parts of Baluchistan are the parts, which are likely to have the surface and underground, huge reserves of precious stones and mineral wealth.
The Hazara division is predicted to have some potential as well, in the field of precious stones.
Gold of Pakistan
It is generally not known by the people that Pakistan has been blessed with the tremendous reserves of gold. From Azad Kashmir to south of Balouchistan the soil of Pakistan has the ability to bear out gold if proper extraction measures are done. The area of Azad Kashmir is of immense importance in this regard. The scientists and geological experts have said that from the very beginning of the earth’s history the geological changes in that area led to the formation of hard rocks and ultimately gems and precious stones. These areas of Pakistan also possess one of the world’s most precious element gold. Huge reserves of gold are held by Neelum Valley where the gems are also present in abundance. According to an estimate Pakistan has gold reserves of worth 500 billion US Dollars.
In very recent past a huge Gold and Copper reserves lying in the area of Reko Dick have been explored. In this area some 2 billion tons of copper and 20 million ounces of gold are identified which can contribute 1.25 billion annually to our national economy. It is to be remembered that the gold reserves of Reco Dick are world’s largest reserves of gold and copper if we take account of the underground wealth as well.
Similarly in district of Chaghi Balouchistan, the fifth largest reserves of gold and copper have been discovered. The districts of Zhob and Lasbela also possess gold reserves.
Like the developed countries, if Pakistan had enhanced it’s extraction capabilities with time, Pakistan would have been great economy now, but unfortunately for the political reasons and self interests of the ruling groups, the Pakistan not only had it’s natural resources unused but even undiscovered. Not only the laziness and irresponsibility of our rulers (both democratic and dictator) is the cause of this but also some reasons which are external. These reasons, to some extent are discussed below.
Conspiracies and Threats
The great powers of the world aim at dominating the social, economic, and military structures of the world. For their power and might they do everything, including massacre of innocents, destruction of anything that stands their way, exploiting of weak and doing of everything that assures them their rule. For the purpose of feeding their economies, they step onto every wealth producing land and grab everything of importance, after they get their objectives achieved; they leave the ruined areas by giving pennies to people like giving anything to beggars. Modern example is U.S.A. It’s presence in Afghanistan is a great threat to Pakistan’s national security. U.S occupation of Afghanistan has led to a great blow to the Pakistan’s security. Now a number of anti-Pakistan agencies are operating in Afghanistan, which at least didn’t exist in the Taliban regime. The threats, which Pakistan faces now, are somehow linked with Afghanistan. Powers of the world are taking following steps to control the natural resources of Pakistan.
1. Promoting Sub nationalism
It has been repeatedly proved that the foreign agencies in Afghanistan including R.A.W and Mossad are freely operating under complete American protection. These foreigners promote sub-nationalism particularly among the people of undeveloped regions of the country. They produce a sense of being a separate nation among people. For this purpose they spread their agents in common men and try to create hate for their country. Their job gets much easier when the government isn’t giving any attention to these areas. Unfortunately in Pakistan the Balouchistan province is a place which has been kept behind other provinces for no reason. The foreign agencies have also eliminated the three Baloch leaders in recent past and the anger of the people in this matter has been turned to Pakistan. These foreign elements know very well how to use the anger of people in their own way, and so far they have done it. Their ultimate objective is to disintegrate Pakistan into several small states.
The Pakhton nationalist movement is also carried on by these elements in N.W.F.P province, but as compared to Balouchistan, on smaller scale.
To keep the wealth producing areas out of control, the foreign elements support insurgencies. They assist every group, which they believe can create situation of chaos in the region. This assistance can be in the form of money or arms. They do this because it helps them keep these areas unexplored and unmined. In our country we have the example of Balouchistan, where a number of terrorist organizations are being funded by elements across the border from Afghanistan. This is now an open secret that Indians in Afghanistan are constantly strengthening the separatist movements and are training terrorists for fighting against Pakistan army. The weapons that these terrorists hold are completely foreign made and are modern as well.
One of the terrorist group functioning in Balouchistan is BLA (Balouchistan Liberation Army). The public first knew this name in year 2000. From then it has carried out several terrorists acts through out the province. They urge the locals of province to drive out the non-Balochs from Balouchistan; also they have killed many security officials. Another terrorist organization of same type is Baloch Liberation Front; this organization is also proved to be involved in many illegal an illegitimate actions.
If we move to north we find out that in the areas of Malakand and Mehmand Agency the militants and miscreants are funded by these foreign elements, to create instability in the country. These miscreants are active against the army and government only due to the full support of foreign agencies, and without these agencies they are not able to produce even a single RPG or a bullet.
The Indian role in this regard is very important; they are a key player in this entire situation. What are the 40 consulates of India doing in Afghanistan, importantly when the both countries have no direct relation with each other? For what reason has India given Afghanistan 650-750 million US$ aid? Why is India granting huge number of scholarships to Afghan students? Why is India heavily investing in Afghanistan? Why India is dearly cooperating with Afghanistan in field of education, health and economy even though they are not neighbors? These and other questions must be answered, but in context.
We see that the countries of the world come close to each other when they have their interests, when they want to extract certain benefits from each other. India too is in Afghanistan for some interests but what are they?
It should be said very clearly and boldly that the state of India has never been a friend of Pakistan; it has took every step that had the potential of harming Pakistan. From the creation Pakistan has been facing threats from India, but at present the state of Pakistan is facing a very important problem produced by India exclusively for it i.e. the insurgency in Balouchistan and in parts of N.W.F.P province. The main Indian interests in Afghanistan are,
1. To take control of the Afghan government by placing pro-Indian elements in it. By doing this they intend to establish an Indian friendly government in Afghanistan, and to pull back the Pakistan influence in the country.
2. To destabilize Pakistan and ultimately disintegrate it using Afghan land. It can be done either by promoting sub-nationalism or by assisting the insurgencies through weapons and cash.
The very important point here to understand is that all the trouble in our country is mainly in the parts where most of the wealth of the country is present. Whether we look at Swat, Malakand agency, Mehmend agency or the Balouchistan, all the mineral rich parts are under a very dangerous law and order situation. Many terrorist groups are operating in these regions which have also taken control of the gemstone mines and resources. Is all this a conspiracy by enemies to take over the minerals and wealth of Pakistan? Nation needs to thinks about that.
Now that the external threats have been discussed, moving on to the internal threats that our wealth faces, and most important of them is privatization.
Whenever some sort of minerals in our country are discovered, they are sold out to multinational firms for pennies, before it comes to the knowledge of nation.
Many mineral sites have been sold out in the name of privatization, and this work is being done efficiently even today. An example is the project of Reko Dick. Reko Dick is a small town in Chaghi district of Balouchistan where perhaps the world’s
Largest gold and copper reserves have been discovered. The wealth only at surface has been estimated to be of 65 billion US$, while the reserves below are of multiple worth. The former president sold it only for just 21 billion US$. According to the agreement three multinational companies will get 75% of the reserves, Balouchistan government will get share of 25% whereas the federal government will have no share in it. This is much alarming for the nation because if the resources of the country are sold like this, the Pakistan economy would never be able to stand on its on feet. Our nation should understand the reality of privatization, and know that if the privatization of national assets is not stopped now, our homeland will turn into a barren land.
By concluding all the above stated, we can say that the nature has blessed Pakistan with fertile land and precious resources, and on these resources our enemy has set his eyes and it wants them not to be used for the prosperity of the country. But that is what we should be doing; we should explore the minerals of our country and utilize them for our country. We should not let our enemies be successful in their mean aims. We cannot afford our enemies to be successful.
